Sundquist Thursday: Nadia’s First Haircut

Although I believe Nadia can pull any look off and make up for it with her wicked cuteness, it was time to ditch the mullet. So, we went to Kids Club in U Village and enjoyed our first haircut experience. If you need a place to distract a two year old for a haircut, this is the place to go! Nadia not only got a haircut, but box of ponies, a taxi cab chair, some hair glitter and a balloon to finish it off. What fun!

Bowie Tuesday: Leavenworth

We traveled over the pass last weekend to reunite with friends that have made a move to Leavenworth. It is such a picturesque spot to explore, relax and catch up. The kids were thrilled to see their friends, but I’m still pretty convinced I was even more excited to see mine. A day hike, a walk around town and pretty much just quality time with some of my favorite people.

Jame, Carrie & I have been friends since Junior High. There is something pretty special about our kids now being friends and adventuring together.

Bowie Tuesday: Wishful Thinking

Addison has taken to wearing a swimsuit under her clothes daily. I haven’t seen any real harm in her style decision (except maybe discomfort) so she’s kept at it for a few weeks now. Today, as she gazed out at the snow, she decided she only wanted to wear her swimsuit. I can’t read her little imaginative mind, but if I were to take a guess, I’d say say she is trying wish her way to summer. Can’t really say I blame her. Who knows, maybe I’ll drag out the summer box and add a new layer under layer to may wardrobe tomorrow.

Moved on to practicing a little ballet. I love the tongue out for proper concentration.

Back to sundress over the swimsuit. Summer, Summer, wherefore art thou Summer?

It seems like I’ll never shut up about Nadia turning 2. Anyhoo…here are the 2 year portraits I took of her. Go, Nadia, go!

She bought a new Cherry Jam doll (Strawberry Shortcake) with her birthday money, and we were checking the mail to see if it had arrived. It’s so exciting to get birthday mail!

Sundquist Thursday: Princess Party

What better way to stretch a friendship than to share your toddler birthday party? Nadia and Addison had a fabulous princess party in celebration of turning 2 and 4. There was hair, makeup (Salon Maison), nails, dress up, custom hair accessories and a tea party. Fun was had by all!

I must brag on my friend. Kelly made all of the star wands and tiaras, and suffered a needle wound in the process. I’m so proud of the DIY, give-your-girl-all-you’ve-got spirit that is behind these little party favors.

I love that Raeley and Nadia have the same lipstick face. Part pirate, part stroke victim. It makes me wonder what us moms must look like when we put on our makeup – imitation is the best form of flattery.

Everybody knows that blowing out the candles is the best part of having a birthday. Naturally, we put candles in each girls cupcake about five times. Added all together we had far more than 4 and 2 wishes shared with among happy friends.

Doesn’t seem possible that you’re four years old today. But as you assured me yesterday, I will love you when you’re four just like when you were three. To a year of adventures, giggles, coordinated outfit changes, and lots of super squeezes.

Sundquist Thursday: Nadia is 2!

Two doesn’t seem like such a big number, but this was the first birthday in our house where I felt different. It wasn’t even my birthday, but it was a door opened into the world of childhood, where babyhood is left behind. Two brought a few changes with it – we have had Selfishness, Hitting, and Sleeplessness move in, but at the same time we have the joy of welcoming Vocabulary, Achievement, Pride, Kindness, Prayer, Song, Artistry, and Helpfulness. As I battle the little monster that is Two, trying to nip bad attitudes, tantrums and runaway emotions, I get the privilege of seeing Nadia’s beautiful personality bloom as she sings to her dolls, tells me about her day, colors pretty pictures and finds herself overjoyed and filled with excitement about every new thing she discovers.

Because Auntie Kristi and I have absolutely no self control, we threw Nadia a Pink Birthday Breakfast Bash. We had a mini brunch buffet and a dessert buffet, complete with a pink strawberry cake. Nadia loved the breakfast so much that she had her chair pushed in to the buffet table and started munching away. It was her birthday, after all.

Papa was a sport and let Nadia dress him up in her pink boa, handed him a pink kitty wand and some balloons. Doesn’t he look sharp?

On the menu: petit pancake stacks with raspberries, prosciutto egg cups, French toast sticks, fruit skewers, caramel apple bread pudding squares, cranberry orange scones with all the fixings, maple bacon, and sausage links. Delish!

Auntie Kristi put together the amazing dessert buffet. Her menu included mini pink cupcakes with pink buttercream frosting, dark chocolate cupcakes with a powdered sugar dusting, fresh strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting (AMAZING), lemon and strawberry macarons, sparkling pink meringues, and the cutest little pink iced donuts. Plus, there were homemade fluffy pink heart shaped marshmallows and hot cocoa. It was pretty fabulous.

What goes better with way to much sugar than a cold glass of milk? I don’t even drink milk, but these little bottles are too cute to resist.

The hit gift of the day was the Strawberry Shortcake Berry Cafe from Granny and Grandaddy. She was saying “More Strawberry!” as she yanked that box out of the gift bag. She hasn’t stopped playing with it since. **Nadia is extremely grateful for all of the gifts she received**

Nadia’s best pal, Addison, couldn’t make it to the party, so we had a little tea party the next day. I got her all dressed up about ten minutes too early. It was all on the floor right before our guests arrived.

Where are the portraits of the birthday girl? I know, I know. With all of the work of putting the food together, then keeping Nadia happy and talking with my friends and family, I barely squeezed in photos of the details and Nadia enjoying her party. The lesson in this – hire a photographer to photograph your child’s birthday party then you won’t be like me looking back and realizing how many things you missed. P.S. 52 Week: Week 5

Week 5: You with loved ones.

It’s funny how much can go wrong in the 10 seconds til my camera’s self-timer goes off. It feels very close to an eternity and there is just no telling how much mischief my two kiddos can dream up from button push to shutter release. Anything and everything from tickle wars to face squeezes to what I can only label ‘body slams’. We survived, are better for it and enjoyed lots of laughs in process. Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Bring on those high expectation commercials and rarely impressive half-time show!

Sundquist Thursday: Snow Day

Now that we are all so sick of snow that we don’t want to see another flake until next year, I thought I’d post some snow day photos. Unfortunately, I have very few photos of happy children running through the fluffy white. Snow days with a toddler and an infant go like this – spend 3o minutes getting everyone dressed, taking a five minute break in the middle to convince them that they still want to go outside. Play outside for ten minutes. The baby starts crying from being cold, and the toddler, despite your pockets full of dry and warm gloves to hand out, has run out of patience with cold and wet fingers and wants to go inside. Then, you spend 30 minutes undressing everyone. I’ve determined that the required preparation time is definitely not worth the short period of fun.

Introducing: Baby Clara

This is just a brief introduction to my cousin’s sweet new baby. We’ll do a full shoot next week, but she is just too precious not to share. Best part? This first picture was actually taken by Addison. The only way I could convince Addison we weren’t going to touch the brand new 3 day old baby was to give her a camera with an 85mm lens and let her take pictures with mom. I love to see her view of the world. Welcome to the family Baby Clara.
