Sundquist Thursday: Snow Day

Now that we are all so sick of snow that we don’t want to see another flake until next year, I thought I’d post some snow day photos. Unfortunately, I have very few photos of happy children running through the fluffy white. Snow days with a toddler and an infant go like this – spend 3o minutes getting everyone dressed, taking a five minute break in the middle to convince them that they still want to go outside. Play outside for ten minutes. The baby starts crying from being cold, and the toddler, despite your pockets full of dry and warm gloves to hand out, has run out of patience with cold and wet fingers and wants to go inside. Then, you spend 30 minutes undressing everyone. I’ve determined that the required preparation time is definitely not worth the short period of fun.

This is just a brief introduction to my cousin’s sweet new baby. We’ll do a full shoot next week, but she is just too precious not to share. Best part? This first picture was actually taken by Addison. The only way I could convince Addison we weren’t going to touch the brand new 3 day old baby was to give her a camera with an 85mm lens and let her take pictures with mom. I love to see her view of the world. Welcome to the family Baby Clara.

52 Week: Week 3

Theme: White Space

Loved this idea. It is fun to look be looking at scenarios and deciding what would be best framed with negative space. It’s tricky to make it look intentional and just not badly composed. Since we had pretty much a week of epic sledding, uninterrupted family time and unlimited cocoa my options were less than limitless. After six days of being house bound (steep hills have kept our cars trapped and our travel non-existent), we are pretty much ready for a field trip anywhere. Actually we had a great week together and I am absolutely certain that I will look back on this snowed in time as a super special gift wrapped up in white.

Now, let the adventure continue.

Hopefully we won’t be needing to bring out the snow gear again til next year, but we sure were glad to have it ready and raring to go!

Sundquist Thursday: Seeley’s First Month

So rewind from last week’s photos of Seeley. I did manage to document a few snippets of his first month, but I must beg you to look at these images knowing the following – I was suffering from the bleary-eyed, zombie brained fog that comes with the regimen of no sleep and early nursing. I usually didn’t have an opportunity to photograph Thing 2 until Thing 1 was in bed which equals dark and grainy photos, but let’s call them “photojournalistic” and “emotional” and “inspired by 19th century realist painting” rather than dark and grainy.

Bowie Tuesday: Addison

Addison and I made a stop on the way to Grandma’s the other day and I managed to snap a few pictures of her. I love catching her in just her random moments. Taking in, enjoying and simply marveling at her imagination in action.

Pretty sure something is funny. Don’t you want to know what?

Here Addison is showing me how the fish swim away from the snapping crocodiles in the estuary. They are so fierce.

Pretty sure she’s thinking hard on those crocodiles and their wily ways again.

52 Week: Week 2

The theme was responsibility this week. I’ve decided that most if not all of the themed photos will be of my family during the week. One of my goals this year is to live more in the moment. That means enjoying my family everyday. Not always planning the next thing or thinking of things I should be doing. Living with an awareness (while looking for a photos to capture the theme) in what we do in the everyday has been fun so far. I am confidant that by the years end I will not only have 52 photos that capture our year, but also a solid habit of paying more attention to those most important to me.

RESPONSIBILITY

-Landon was under the weather this week and missed two days of school. Even though we didn’t get out of jammies and energy was definitely low, we still made sure to work on some homework so as not to get too far behind. Getting the homework done while sick wasn’t the true test of responsibility to me though, it was completing the task with a happy heart.

This was the other option on the table for me for the theme this week. The tides have turned and now Landon is the one helping Addison build her legos. He has taken on the role of helper. Love it. If you haven’t discovered the new line of girl legos called Friends, they are pretty much the best idea I’ve seen all year. I seriously cannot believe it the idea has been this long in coming.

Bowie Tuesday: Kona for Thanksgiving

It seems pretty close to forever since we were enjoying the sun & sand, but Thanksgiving is really only a holiday ago. Must be the drizzle that blurring my memories. Enjoy a little sunshine on us this Bowie Tuesday.

Watching hermit crabs leave small shells and search for bigger homes. Pretty fun way to pass an afternoon.

Addison discovered a deep love of hula or ‘hawaii dance’. She sat enthralled watching the girls danced and jumped at the chance to participate at the end of the show. Pretty sure her little girl dreams came true for the night.

My cute family. Love them.

My hope is that they forever have each other’s back.

52 day: Day one

So I have decided to take on the 52 day challenge. This is not overly ambitious but it will be fun to look back on at years end. The Flickr group I’m doing it with provides a theme every week and you take a picture that depicts your interpretation. So Sunday will be my 52 day updates. Here’s to a year of looking at things a little more on purpose.

This week the word was SHARING. This could be taken in so many ways and I love the multitude of examples I’ve seen from others. Here is mine. In my heart, Addison wants to share her special concoction treat. A true gift of love.

And because why have one photo when you can enjoy many, here are few more from a truly enjoyable 50 degree day complete with snow cones in the hot tub with friends.

It was a do-it-yourself snow cone bar. Of course. Recipe? One part shaved ice to 52 million parts syrup. Exactly.

Bowie Tuesday: Pumpkin patch #1

Let the pumpkin farm adventuring begin! This October has been had a sad slow start to the exploration of pumpkin farms. The weather has been wonderful but the calendar has been full. It’s already the 18th and we’ve only been to two, which feels way behind schedule. There are just so many fun farms to tromp around feeling the fall. We made a quick stop at a small farm near my mom’s house the other day. A game of hide & seek in the corn maze and a search for the craziest pumpkin made for mission complete.

Self timer lessons learned: Black & white can’t fix every photo, hand held is not my best angle, Landon clearly knows when I can’t see him, Addison is confused by what’s going on. All the bad doesn’t make the good any less of a keeper.
