Play Day at the Park: Greenlake

Greenlake, windy weather, adorable kids, pinwheels and a whole lot of enthusiastic fun! Our Play Day at the Park this year was a triumphant success. It is always fun to romp around the Greenlake Park and explore, our challenge is to remember to capture it all while we play. You may not be able to tell, but this cuter-than-a-baby panda little girl was battling the morning chill and runny nose with charm and curiosity. She clearly came out the victor.

Jeff & Kelsey: Snohomish Engagment

Beautiful. Kelsey is just stunning and I cannot wait to see her as a bride. We wondered around Snohomish the other morning for our engagement session with Jeff & Kelsey and had the pleasure of celebrating Kelsey’s birthday with photos followed by a delicious breakfast. Is there a better way to celebrate? Thank you for sharing your birthday with us and allowing us to spend a little time enjoying the relaxing, comfortable and very sweet relationship that you and Jeff share.

Rachel & John: Part 1

I had the privilege the last two weekends to second shoot for one of my favorite people in the whole wide world (Jennifer Apps Photography.) Although we only lived together for one year in college, the dream is that we will one day be neighbors and share sugar through our kitchen windows. That close. Until then, I’ll just revel in the opportunity to shoot beside her and enjoy the company.

Bowie Tuesday: Summer day

I’m not sure why it is, but summer seems to be saturated with memory making moments. The day’s are longer, the world is larger because we spend so much time outside, the grass is greener, we play harder, we eat more popsicles, and we spend more time with friends. I love to watch my children make their own memories. I wonder which ones will travel with them well into adulthood. I pray that it will not slip by too swiftly and that I will gather up each and every giggle, smile & big squeeze.

Colby & Kristi : Preparation

One of my favorite salons for wedding day preparation is Robert Leonard Salon & Spa in Seattle. They have pampering down to an art and you are guaranteed to walk out their front doors feeling your most glamourous. When Kristi told us she and her wedding party would begin their day getting getting ready at the salon, we knew nothing but fabulous could follow.

Kristi’s earrings were absolutely beautiful! I love how they sparkled and danced when she moved.

Stunning. Simply stunning.

I couldn’t completely neglect our handsome groom. Cool and collected with the most welcoming, charming grin. The perfect dashing compliment to his ravishing bride.

Sometimes opportunities arise and you move forward not even realizing the full scope. If just feels right. Back in May we received a call from an organization called Wish Upon a Wedding. They are the first non-profit wish granting organization providing weddings for couples facing terminal illness. It was Wednesday and they working feverishly to create the first event for the Seattle chapter the following Sunday. We agreed, only understanding where we were to be and that we would be volunteering to photograph a wedding. What an incredible blessing it turned out to be. Shelly & Jay have a remarkable story, and thanks to the tireless efforts of Wish Upon a Wedding, the final chapter was a grand celebration for their wedding. Their wedding was a stark reminder of why we marry. To be joined to the one we love, for better or worse in sickness and health. Never before have those words held such meaning for me. Rylee & I were honored and so grateful to have been a part of Jay & Shelly’s day. We’ll post additional pictures next week now that we have the green light, but for now you can read about their story on today’s MSN.com page. Colby & Kristi:Texas Heart, Seattle Style

I absolutely do not profess to being an all out expert, but after shooting 3 Texas weddings (two hear in Seattle and one in Texas) I feel confidant in saying that Texans are the friendliest, warmest and best mannered people in the US. And man, do they know how to have a good time! It might be the slow southern drawl and the great big smiles, but something about them makes you feel comfortable like family. Yesterday’s wedding was incredible and there will be plenty more to share, but for today here is one image of the newly married Mr. & Mrs. Colby Street! Ya’ll come back for some more real soon. (I had to try.)

Mariella & Brian: Just a peek

It’s Monday and I’d be remiss to let the day pass with nothing. The full post of this fabulous couple’s photos will be up on Friday, but here is just one to give you a little glimpse of the fun to follow. After we finished shooting I just wanted to hang out with these two. They are so clearly in love and comfortable with one another that you cannot help but enjoy yourself when you are with them. I look forward to another scrumptious lunch at the Boat Street Cafe, made all the more grand by the company. ( I was so excited to dig in, that I did not take a photo to properly brag about the delicious food, but trust me, is was absolutely incredible.)

It’s good to have a goal

For Father’s Day I had a goal. I’m pretty sure the goal was a bigger deal to me than it was to Mike, but hey, a goal is a goal. I wanted a photo of me with Landon & Addison. Seems simple enough, but it is actually quite incredible how hard that task has been to accomplish. I have been lugging my camera with me everywhere in hopes of making it happen. I even planned a portrait session with a fellow photographer friend (and we are still going to make that happen!) and yet life is filled with diversions that have a way of waylaying the best of intentions. Last Friday we enjoyed a picnic at the park and my good friend Jessica asked if she could take a few photos. My first reaction was no, I’m unshowered, it’s nap time and …. What?!!! There are no excuses. This is the opportunity I had been waiting for and I almost gave it away because we weren’t looking our photo ready best??? The best part? I wouldn’t change a thing about this photo. I love my kids. In this photo, I think you can see it. That is the kind of photo I want them to have forever, me loving them everyday in every way.

I’m not terribly crafty. That’s just the truth. My mom, however, is clearly carrying around the crafty bug because when I picked Landon & Addison up on Father’s day they had created these two pieces of fabulous art to give to Daddy. Yes, you see correctly, they are hanging on our living room walls as the true art that they are. I think she has truly captured them beautifully, right down to Addison’s band aid covered legs. The current count is two, but keeping up with Landon is dangerous business for a two year old.

Driftwood Park & Family Portraits

Family lifestyle portraiture is really one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. We are all moving so fast and always forward. Growing, changing, experiencing, living and all of this takes time. Time, however, is sneaky. Ever present yet hidden in the shadows of our busy days it creeps by us and days become months and months morph into years. Photos of our families, interacting, laughing, experiencing a moment on purpose stops time. Although you are capturing a day or a few hours really it creates a memory that encapsulates a season of life. A whole chunk of remember when’s. I enjoyed an hour or so with my beautiful cousin and her equally beautiful family yesterday making sure to still this here and now. Every chance I have to spend with this fabulous trio is enormously enjoyable, but now I can give them something back to keep. Enjoy your treasure.

I love that kissing his bride was his idea. There is a Happy Anniversary today, and I wish you many more years of celebrating.

What a grand example of ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’. Raely was demonstrating all her adorable noises at the top of her lungs so dad thought he’d try to best her. She could hold that note for awhile, clearly she’s been practicing.
