Jake & Karen: Part II

This wedding held so many wonderful details. Pearls that were Karen’s Grandmother’s, given to her Grandmother on her wedding day. Cuff links that belonged to Jake’s Grandfather. It is these little touches that lend to the overall wonder of the day. Karen & Jake, now that you have returned from your African adventures we wanted to share a bit more of Your Day so that you are able to re-enjoy the moments. Welcome home!

It’s rare that there is someone at a reception to whom we willingly lend camera equipment to. Reason number one: we might not get our stuff back. Reason number two: you might break it. Reason number three: you’ll probably try to take our picture. At Karen and Jake’s reception, we broke our “normal” and handed off a camera – we’ll show you some of the party pics later. I just wanted to show you that we are right – although the camera was returned in perfect shape, we were photographed several times throughout the evening. Here we are in all our glory! Yes, we eat dessert at receptions, especially when it’s blueberry goatmilk frozen yogurt from Molly Moons!

A few things about Eleanor:

I love her name (it’s my grandma’s middle name), and I love her nickname: Rory.

She has fabulous blue eyes.

She’s got the best stoic baby face.

She’s got a mom who’s super crafty – check out the birthday hat and birthday dress.

Woohoo she’s 1! Hip Hip Hooray!

She opened her birthday present at our shoot. It was a super fluffy and cozy teddy bear! Nadia is having some teddy bear envy.

Sundquist Thursday: Bowie-Sundquist Vacation Part II

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast the other morning at Blueberry Hills in Manson. While waiting for our table we ventured out with buckets to pick some juicy, simply wonderful blueberries. Not a bad way to kill time. I’m absolutely certain that Addison ate way more than made their way into the bucket, but who could blame her. Blueberries are pretty wonderful, especially right from the bush. Nadia missed the berry picking, but I imagine she may have been dreaming of the day she too will don her pink backpack and fill her bucket to the brim. So many memories, we can only hope to keep them vivid enough to add some warm & happy to dreary winter days.

We start them early. This camera actually tells you that you are ‘pretty as a princess’ after every shot. If that’s not edifying, I don’t know what is.

Definitely, pretty as a princess.

Can you tell the resemblance? Yeah, you can. It’s uncanny.

This is a little picture of Landon in his happy place. Legos, fudgesicles, a favorite person to share it with and it’s not even noon. Good times indeed.

Not perfect unless you are watching Star Wars while building Star Wars legos. But everybody knows that.

Smores in honor of National Smores Day, or really in honor of the fact that smores are so darn amazing and should be eaten at every opportunity presented. Could three ingredients be more perfectly suited? I think not.

Colby & Kristi: Portraits

Colby and Kristi can really cut a rug. They’re like butter melting on toast – sliding all over the dance floor like it doesn’t even matter. It’s enough to make someone like me feel the urge to take some dance lessons. Kelly asked Colby where he learned to dance (as in, how much did you pay for all those lessons?) and his response was, “I never took lessons; I just have a great partner”. Yup! He’s charming and a good dancer. And Kristi, well, she’s the beautiful girl that everyone loves. She’s kind, relaxed, and loves to have fun. You should have been there when she was playing peek-a-boo through 8 turquoise pashminas. Anyhoo, these two are the sweetest people, and we loved spending a little time photographing them on their wedding day.

Rachel & John: Part 2

More fun from Rachel & John. It was nostalgic to walk the campus of Western Washington Univerisity with Jenn. Instead of heading to class we appreciate texture and light for photos. Instead of a backpack of books we carry cameras and gear. Although we walk the same paths, we are most definitely far from where we started. I’m not sure if it made me feel old or just all grown up.

I had the privilege the last two weekends to second shoot for one of my favorite people in the whole wide world (Jennifer Apps Photography.) Although we only lived together for one year in college, the dream is that we will one day be neighbors and share sugar through our kitchen windows. That close. Until then, I’ll just revel in the opportunity to shoot beside her and enjoy the company.

Bowie Tuesday: Summer day

I’m not sure why it is, but summer seems to be saturated with memory making moments. The day’s are longer, the world is larger because we spend so much time outside, the grass is greener, we play harder, we eat more popsicles, and we spend more time with friends. I love to watch my children make their own memories. I wonder which ones will travel with them well into adulthood. I pray that it will not slip by too swiftly and that I will gather up each and every giggle, smile & big squeeze.

Bowie Tuesday: One of my favorite things

For those of you that are city dwellers and may not have opportunity to enjoy the pleasantries of county life, let me share with you one of the treasures. I make the trip into the town of Stanwood (a fifteen minute drive through mostly farm lands) quite often. My mom & stepdad live out that way and Landon will soon be starting Kindergarten in town. Along the winding road that is Marine View Drive there are fields planted with corn, strawberries, lettuce and a variety of other vegetables marked by small white signs sharing the secrets of the unrecognizable leafy starts. It’s a calming drive, whether it be the illusion of stillness or the beauty of the land, it makes my heart happy. Every year I look forward to the small stand opening where the kids and I stop to purchase fresh raspberries & blueberries. Just along the roadside it is so welcoming and just feels like a special treat. Today I stopped and for the first time (my observation skills must truly be lacking) realized that this venture belongs to the kids in the family. They both pick in the fields and run the stand. Who wouldn’t want to support these industrious siblings? In a time where entitlement and laziness has become more common than rare, I am heartened by their tireless commitment and bright smiles. Not to mention the delicious raspberries. If you’re passing through or just need a good place for a drive, stop by and say hi to Gracie, I promise your day will be improved before you leave.

Before I left the older kids were already back to the fields to gather. With much responsibility comes great reward. I am praying great things for this family, they blessed me today without even trying.
