Grow Hair, Grow

As it goes, this week has not been my favorite.  The typical snowball effect of lots of smallish things clinging together to make for a rather defeating battle.  The list is long, but I’ll give you a small glimpse of three of my battles lost.  It began rather insignificantly with the discovery that my instant hot water dispenser had been secretly dripping water under my sink for quite some time.  Needless to say this unfortunate turn of events is not catastrophic, but merely an inconvenience.  Turn it off, consider replacing or scrapping the whole convenience, and move on.  Done and done.

This was followed closely (the very same evening) with a chain of events that led to my laptop screen cracking.  On a scale of 1-10, I was ruling this about a 5.  Made my stomach a little sick, made me retrace my steps a million times in true masochistic fashion to see all the ways this could have been avoided.  The forever list of ‘if-I’d-only’.  Still, Rylee’s super husband assured me that this could be fixed even though AppleCare did not actually care about this problem and so I resolved to work on ordering the new screen and focusing on never letting this happen again.

Moving forward but one more day and I’m met with the straw.  You know, the one that finally takes down the camel.  My straw came in the form of a five year old scissor wielding hairdresser who learned how to ’safely’ use scissors at preschool.   Kudos to Landon for not taking an eye out, but seriously, I unashamedly admit that I cried upon discovery.  It is only hair.  It will grow back.  No one was hurt.  I know all of these things and still I cried.  Addison looked very much like one of my Barbies after I lopped off their hair willy nilly when I was little.  He was gracious enough to hide the pile of hair under some pillows so that the discovery came in waves.  All of the damage took about 20 minutes.  20 minutes I thought they were just playing nicely in Addison’s kitchen.  I’m better now and I see how this will be a story that will live on in family lore, however I’m still a little taken aback each morning or when she wakes from a nap.  I’m also stockpiling headbands, bows and all things girly to give the girl a chance for the next few months. Next week is bound to improve.

The transformation done by my incredible friend Lori, who managed to get us in first thing the next morning.  Way to make trendy out of riotous disaster.

Clearly Addison is unfazed by her new hairdo.  I think she’s just glad not to have hair in her face anymore.  Who knows, maybe she asked Landon to cut it for her.

Teryn - Oh my goodness! What a story! Her new hair cut is adorable though!! :)April 10, 2010 - 6:11 pm

Beth - I'm thinkin' that on a hot summer day there might be a few gals out there who would love to be able to pull off Addison's new 'do as well as she does. (And I think you cried just enough to impress Landon that he has to check with you first...about everything...for the rest of time. Glad Lauri could help.)April 10, 2010 - 6:12 pm

Cheryl Gennaios - OMG!!!! I cried for you!! Although you are completly right...someday this will be truely funny...not so much right now!! jenny keller - haaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!! ok not funny, but i really did just burst out laughing. why is it that when they are quiet they are always doing something naughty??? so sorry kelly, i'd be crying too. but she really is adorable with that little pixie cut!!April 10, 2010 - 7:31 pm

Crystal Olson - LOL!!!!!!!!!!!Oh Kelly, this brings back memories of my little sisters. I was babysitting my yougest sister and I swear I left her alone for one minute and she came out with ''bangs'' I was so scared for my parents return. The pictures are great, and the best part is that Addison is such a trooper and seems completely unphased that her hair has a slight change!April 10, 2010 - 8:59 pm

Erin - I'm really sorry this isn't funny for you yet, Kelly. I laughed so hard and read the whole post to Brian. If it makes you feel better (it probably doesn't), I cut my own hair when I was about Addison's age, and my mom gave me sideburns to try to fix it. Even at three, I knew that sideburns were NOT COOL for girls (maybe I gathered that from my mom's tone when she told me I would have to have them... or my dad's face when I had to show him...) Anyway, at least Addison has the cutest pixi face ever!April 10, 2010 - 9:04 pm

Jeanne - She is still the cutest most precious 2 year old. You got to love that LandonApril 10, 2010 - 9:33 pm

Kelly - There is definitely comfort in friends. Thank you everyone for your stories, your sympathy and most definitely your reminder that this is really mostly funny. I mean really, what is childhood without moments of parental panic?April 10, 2010 - 9:40 pm

Adam Stevens - Wow... I'm laughing with a lump in my stomach that our little one has not deemed to try this... Thankfully she loves her long hair. I fear for her sister though.... Very brave putting this up. Sounds like a rough week. Is your little guy auditioning for "Edward Scissor Hands?" -AdamApril 10, 2010 - 10:17 pm

Amy - Christina gave me "bangs" (right around the area where guys get their bald spot) when we were little...I don't know what it is with kids and scissors. Hide the razors though, I shaved off my eyebrows not too long after my haircut. Addison looks adorable and very hip...but then again, I love short hair. Beautiful girl, beautiful photos!April 16, 2010 - 9:22 pm

Christi Hall - Ok...that is so funny & mostly CUTE!!!! Hope you guys are doing well! XOXOXO ChristiApril 29, 2010 - 9:46 am
