For years I’ve gazed enviously upon the scanned pages of glossy magazines that other photographers landed images in. I would sit and stare at the spreads and think, “They are so much better than we are.” and “Who do they know in the editing department?” and “They are so lucky that their image got picked.” What I should have been telling myself was, “Gee, they were really on the ball about entering images to the magazines.” A while back I sat down with Michelle from Seattle Bride and she mentioned the Resource Guide. It was then that I realized that they needed lots of images for the guide, and as a photographer, I happened to have oodles to share. I suddenly knew that it wasn’t that others were better or had a friend at the magazine or had luck on their side, this issue was that they had tackled some of my enemies – Self Doubt, Procrastination and Laziness. Well, it turns out that when you actually put your hat in the ring, you have a much better chance of getting picked. We have 12 images in the 2010 Seattle Bride Resource Guide! After my great victory, I realized that my enemies weren’t that insurmountable, and I tried again. Low and behold, another victory – the Design Aglow Inspire Guide for posing brides and grooms! Take that Procrastination! Now I just need to work on my scanning skills.
We couldn’t do this without great brides and grooms with impeccable taste. It’s the details that they picked that made our images stand out. Thank you to Amanda & Chris, Shawna & Raphael, Cheryl & Kosta, Audrey & Pete, Carissa & Galen, Kiki & Jeff, Shannon & Joe, and Erin & Brian. You all rock!
